[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:07] Speaker B: We are in a season on all things related to the spiritual realm. And today's question is, what is Satan's original name? [00:00:16] Speaker A: Okay, so this is fascinating. Satan is never actually given a name in the Bible. I mean, he has one. He has a created name, but we are never told it. In fact, not one single demon in the entire Bible are we given their name. They're actually named after their attributes and what they do. And so, like, to this day, we don't know. Most people think that Satan's name is Satan or Lucifer. Those are actually just descriptions of. Of. Of their character or what they look like. [00:00:45] Speaker B: So could we talk through some of the nicknames then that describe him? [00:00:48] Speaker A: So there's a lot. I wrote them down. And so I want. I just want to kind of fly through these because I think it's interesting. And there's at least 15 or more. Okay, so Satan, which technically in the Hebrew, it's the Satan, it means the accuser. And so Satan is not a proper name. It is a description of the fact that he accuses God's people and goes before God's presence and accuses them. We have the devil, which literally means the slanderer or the false accuser. That's an interesting name. We have the serpent or the ancient serpent, really bringing you back to the Garden of Eden. He's called the dragon, which is like a large serpent or monster. And kind of just this description that especially you see in Revelation that he's pictured as just large and scary and devouring, and he destroys everything he touches. He's called Lucifer. And this is actually from the King James version. It means shining one or morning star. And so this idea that when you, like, if you could see an angel in the spirit realm, they would be filled with light. And Satan was a shining one. You have Beelzebaal or Beelzebub, which kind of technically means lord of the flies, and it's a really ugly name. Or lord of the dung, even worse. I know. Like. Like meaning everything he touches turns to crap, essentially. He's called the evil one. He's called the tempter. He's called the God of this world. And so of all the demon hierarchy, Satan is at the top of the hierarchy. And they all kind of report to him. And together they. They create the. The culture or the spirit of the age, if you will. He's called the prince of the power of the air, which is another kind of referen being behind the formation of, like, the major cultural movements and ethos of our day. He's called the prince of the world, the accuser of the brethren, the deceiver, the adversary, the destroyer. You might see this as Apollyon or Apadon. These are Greek and Hebrew words for he just destroys things. And so he's never named. And you get all these descriptions by basically what he does or his character. Yeah. [00:02:53] Speaker B: That's fascinating. So what is the reason for why demons never get named? [00:02:58] Speaker A: Yeah, so whenever God names anything, behind that name is purpose. It's created purpose. God has a good purpose for why he names things. So like Michael, for example. Great name means one who is like God. Right. And so Michael is given this archangel status, and he is the Lord's primary representative as a part of the archangel team, if you will. And so what you find is with name comes dignity, and with name comes purpose. And so by not naming them, he is essentially saying they have abandoned their purpose and they have lost all of their dignity. And so by not even naming them, it's almost like he's saying you're not even worthy of being named. You are so low and rebellious and doomed and damned. [00:03:44] Speaker B: That's super fascinating. And I think probably a lot of our listeners don't realize that, like, Satan is not a name. It's more of, like a title. [00:03:51] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:03:52] Speaker B: Or the devil. And I think that's super helpful insights into, like, the spiritual realm. [00:03:57] Speaker A: Yeah. So when you call him Satan, you're actually calling him for what he is. He is an accuser. [00:04:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:02] Speaker A: And it also makes us a little reticent to participate in behaviors or character traits that are. That he's named after. Yeah. And so it just. It. It's good to know the names because behind the name is his character and our attributes and qualities that we do not want to emulate. [00:04:20] Speaker B: I was going to say. Yeah, it's very helpful whenever. If you called him the accuser or the deceiver, right away you're already becoming conscious of the fact of what you're being subjected to. [00:04:29] Speaker A: Amen. [00:04:30] Speaker B: When you're dealing with him. So thank you. [00:04:31] Speaker A: Enjoy.
